Search & social marketing

Digital Marketing Strategy SEO, SMO & SMM

Search and social run as one system and reported on qualified enquiries and cost per lead — never on impressions.

What we do

Three disciplines, scoped separately, judged on one number

SEO, social media optimisation and social media marketing are usually sold as a single retainer, which makes them impossible to evaluate. They work on different timelines, they fail for different reasons, and most businesses do not need all three at once. We scope them separately so you can see what each one costs and what each one returned.

What holds them together is measurement. Every engagement starts with conversion tracking configured properly, because the majority of accounts we inherit are measuring the wrong things — which makes every decision downstream a guess wearing a chart. Once that is right, the reporting answers one question: which of these produced qualified enquiries, and at what cost.

We are engineers as well as marketers, and that changes what we can fix. When a campaign stalls because the landing page takes six seconds on mobile, because enquiries sit unanswered over a weekend, or because conversion tracking was never wired correctly, we repair the underlying system rather than reporting the problem back to you and invoicing for the month.

Core capabilities

What each discipline actually covers

Scoped in full so you can tell what you are buying, and decide which parts you genuinely need.

Search engine optimisation (SEO)

Three separate jobs that get sold as one. We scope them separately because they fail for different reasons, and because most sites only actually need two of them fixed.

Technical SEO

  • Crawl and index audit: what Google can reach, what it is ignoring, and why
  • Core Web Vitals work on LCP, CLS and INP, measured in the field rather than in a lab score
  • Correct canonical, hreflang, pagination and redirect handling
  • Structured data (Organization, Service, FAQPage, BreadcrumbList) that validates and stays valid
  • XML sitemaps with honest lastmod dates rather than a build timestamp on every URL

On-page SEO

  • One H1 per page and a heading structure that reflects the actual argument
  • Title and meta description written to earn the click, not to hit a character count
  • Internal linking that moves authority toward the pages meant to convert
  • Image alt text that describes the image, and empty alt on genuinely decorative ones

Content and local SEO

  • Content built around questions customers actually ask, not keyword volume alone
  • Google Business Profile configuration, categories and service areas
  • Location and service-area pages written per market rather than templated with a name swapped
  • Review generation, because in most local categories it moves rankings faster than content does

Social media optimisation (SMO)

The unglamorous half of social: making sure the profiles people already find are complete, consistent and pointed at something that converts. It is usually the cheapest work available and the most frequently skipped.

Profile and presence

  • Complete, consistent profiles across the platforms your customers actually use
  • Consistent name, address and phone details, which also feed local search
  • Bio, link and call-to-action pointing at the page that converts rather than the homepage
  • Cover and profile imagery sized correctly per platform so nothing is cropped badly

Discoverability

  • Keyword-aware bios and handles, since social search is a real discovery channel
  • Pinned and featured content chosen to answer the first question a new visitor has
  • Correct business category, hours and service area on every platform that supports them

Measurement

  • UTM tagging so social traffic is attributable rather than lumped into direct
  • Conversion tracking wired before campaigns run, not bolted on afterwards

Social media marketing (SMM)

Paid and organic campaigns, run as distribution rather than decoration. We will tell you when your category would do better with search — plenty of B2B and trades businesses would.

Paid social

  • Meta, Instagram and LinkedIn campaigns built on your customer data rather than broad interests
  • Custom and lookalike audiences from customer lists and site visitors
  • Creative tested in small structured batches instead of one asset per campaign
  • Retargeting sequenced by how far someone actually got, not one catch-all audience

Organic social

  • A posting cadence you can sustain — four useful posts a month beats twenty forgettable ones
  • Content built from real customer questions, jobs and outcomes rather than a filler calendar
  • Community management with response times that match what the platform rewards

Reporting

  • Reported on qualified enquiries and cost per lead, not impressions and engagement rate
  • Channel-level attribution so you can see which platform produced revenue
Proof, and what we cannot yet show you

We have not published a marketing case study yet

Every case study in our portfolio is an engineering build — SaaS platforms, telehealth, PropTech, ecommerce, ERP and CRM. None of them is a search or social campaign, and we would rather say that plainly than dress an engineering project up as a marketing result.

What we can point you at is this site. The location pages are our own SEO work, running in public: a page per market, each written for that market rather than templated with a name swapped, with the schema, internal linking and sitemap discipline described above applied throughout. You can read them, check the markup and judge the quality directly rather than taking a number on trust.

The engineering work is also more relevant than it first appears. Two of the case studies were substantially performance rebuilds, and page speed is a ranking and conversion factor rather than a separate concern — which is the same reason we look at your site before we look at your ad account.

When we do publish a marketing case study it will carry figures a client has agreed to and we can substantiate. Until then, ask us for references on a call and judge the reasoning on this page.

What you can verify right now

  • Location pages written per market across four provinces, live on this site
  • Service, FAQPage and BreadcrumbList schema on this page — validate it yourself
  • A sitemap with real per-page lastmod dates rather than one build timestamp
  • An llms.txt file, so AI search tools can read what we do

We also build the software behind marketing systems, including our own lead management software, which is why we fix follow-up and tracking rather than reporting them as someone else’s problem.

Questions worth asking

Search and social — frequently asked questions

Including the ones that make a package retainer harder to sell.

What is the actual difference between SEO, SMO and SMM?
SEO is about being found in search engines. SMO is optimising your social profiles themselves — making them complete, consistent and discoverable, which is largely a one-off job. SMM is running campaigns on social platforms, paid or organic, which is ongoing. They get bundled together because agencies sell them as a package, but they cost different amounts, work on different timelines, and not every business needs all three.
Do we need all three, or can we start with one?
Most businesses should start with one or two. For trades, B2B and professional services, search usually produces enquiries faster than social does, so SEO first is the honest recommendation. For restaurants, retail, fitness, events and anything visual, social earns its place quickly. SMO sits slightly apart — it is cheap, mostly one-off, and worth doing regardless because incomplete profiles leak traffic you have already earned.
How long before we see results?
Paid social produces usable data within days and meaningful signal in four to six weeks. SEO is slower: typically three to six months before movement on competitive terms, and longer for a new domain with no history. Local SEO can move faster, sometimes within weeks, because Business Profile and review signals respond quickly. Anyone promising first-page rankings in thirty days is either targeting terms nobody searches or doing something that will cost you later.
How should we split budget between search and social?
It depends on whether your customers are actively looking for what you sell or need to be shown it. Search captures existing demand, so it suits categories where people search when they have a problem. Social creates demand, which suits visual, impulse and discovery-led products. If you are unsure, the cheapest way to find out is a small paid test on both for a month with proper conversion tracking, then put the budget where the enquiries actually came from.
What will the reporting actually show?
Qualified enquiries, cost per lead by channel and campaign, which searches or audiences produced revenue, and return on total spend including our fee. What it will not lead with is impressions, reach or engagement rate. Those are diagnostic numbers, useful for working out why something is or is not working, but they are not the result — and an agency that opens its report with them is telling you what it expects to be judged on.
Do you use AI to write the content?
For research, outlining, variants and repurposing, yes — it is genuinely faster. For anything that publishes, a person edits it first. Mass-produced AI content is a liability rather than a shortcut now: it rarely ranks, and it almost never gets cited by AI search tools, which defeats the point. The useful rule is that AI handles the repetitive work and human judgement decides whether the result is worth reading.
Do we own our accounts and data?
Yes, from the first day. Your ad accounts, analytics property, Google Business Profile, website and domain stay in your name, and we work inside them rather than holding them on your behalf. Some agencies structure it the other way so that leaving means starting over. It is worth asking any firm you shortlist about this before you sign rather than when you are trying to leave.
We already have an agency. Can you audit what they are doing?
Yes, and it is often the most useful first engagement. An audit covers whether conversion tracking is configured correctly, whether the campaign structure lets you see what actually produced revenue, whether the technical foundations are holding the site back, and whether the reporting is answering the right question. Sometimes the honest conclusion is that the current agency is doing fine and the problem is elsewhere — we will tell you that too.
